First National Support Group Meeting in Kilkenny - 17/10/13

Posted on 25/09/13

The Miscarriage Association of Ireland will hold its first national support group meeting in Kilkenny on 17th October 2013, 7pm in St Patrick’s Parish Centre, Bohernatounish Road, Loughboy. This meeting, the first to be held outside of Dublin, will give an opportunity to all those affected by miscarriage to talk about and share their experience. The meeting will be co-ordinated by committee members of the association.

‘This meeting provides an opportunity for women and their partners to talk in a supportive environment about their experience,’ said Niamh Ryan, secretary of the Association. ‘Of course, people are under no obligation to talk and can find great comfort simply by listening to others talk about their own experience.’

A Book of Remembrance will also be available on the day for those who wish to make an entry in memory of the child they have lost through miscarriage.

The Association, which celebrates 25 years in existence this year, provides support to all who have been affected by miscarriage through a telephone support service, monthly support meetings in Dublin’s Buswells Hotel, and an annual Service of Remembrance, which will take place this year on 10th November, at 3 pm in St Theresa’s Church, Donore Avenue (off South Circular Road), Dublin 8.

Flora Women’s Mini Marathon Monday 3rd June 2013

Posted on 09/08/13

One of the biggest fund raisers by the Miscarriage Association of Ireland is the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon and for the past number of years we have taken part in this wonderful event.

This year was a special one for the Mini Marathon as it celebrated its 30th anniversary having begun in 1983. The sun came out to celebrate with us and the atmosphere was electric as we waited at the starting line.

While many of the participants are eager to complete the 10 kilometres in record time the vast majority appear to relish the exercise and the chat while at the same time taking the opportunity to raise some funds for a charity which has benefitted themselves or their families.

There were many bands along the route blasting out tunes to give us a cheer along the way. There were children handing out water bottles, the fire services gave us a hose down and many lined the streets to egg us on. All was done in good cheer allowing us to get to the finish line without noticing the pain in the thighs! My sisters Rita Core, Norín McManus, our friend Barbara and I came in at 1:58:52, which is not our fastest speed to date, but who’s counting!!

The Miscarriage Association of Ireland had a welcome cuppa for those who partook on our behalf in Buswells Hotel, Molesworth Street, in the heart of Dublin. Buswells hospitality as always did the trick of reviving those who had endured the marathon and set them up for the journey home.

We hope to partake in many more marathons in the future and are delighted to say a big thank you to all those who ran or walked the marathon on our behalf and raised a lot of money for our very worthy cause.

See photos of the happy group before the event. Well done girls!!!

Flora Women’s Mini Marathon 2012

Posted on 20/06/2012

Many of our trusty volunteers took part in the Women's Mini Marathon on the 4th June 2012.

This year everyone participating received a number and a tag and were timed from the beginning of the marathon. The results were posted in the Evening Herald and we were all were delighted with our time.

It was a beautiful day and all enjoyed themselves. There was great support from locals along the route.

After everyone had made it around the course, they retired to Buswell's Hotel for much needed light refreshments and an analysis of the day.

We are very grateful to everyone who supported us in donating sponsorship money. Well done for all the effort put in and taking part. Hope to see you all again next year.
