The Miscarriage Association
OF IRELAND
International Baby Loss
Awareness Day 2007

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month is October and Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is on October 15th all across the world. Originally created to provide support, education and awareness for those who have had or may know someone who has had a miscarriage, an ectopic pregnancy, a still birth, or the loss of an infant. We hope that we can help you by giving you and all of the other parents, grandparents, siblings, relatives, and friends a special day of remembrance. This special day of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance is October 15th every year.

Not only do we want to reach others who have had similar losses, but also we want to reach people who have been blessed with children and help them to understand that we have lost our unborn and our infant children, and we want them to allow us this time to grieve and to remember.

The Miscarriage Association of Ireland
held an
Information Evening
with Medical Professionals

on
Monday 15th October 2007
to mark
International Baby Loss Awareness Day

in
Wynn's Hotel, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1
at 7.30pm

We also invited the general public to take part in the
Global Wave of Light
by lighting a candle at
7.00p.m. on Monday 15th October

All who took part joined people all over the world in
remembering all babies who died
during pregnancy, at birth or too early in life.

This could be done individually or in a group, at home or in a communal space
and is in memory of all babies who lit up our lives for such a short time

Sunday 15th October 2006 was the first Baby Loss Awareness Day 2006 in Ireland

It was a day of coming-together of The Miscarriage Association of Ireland and I.S.A.N.D.S. for a special yet informal day that concerns both groups and all people who have experienced similar losses. Both groups attended and provided information, literature and support to all who came along.

Our Book of Remembrance was available to anyone who wanted to make an entry. People were welcomed, some whose losses were recently and some from some time ago. There was a relaxed atmosphere where people felt they could come and chat and yet didn't have to explain or excuse themselves if they felt emotional as they were among like-minded people who all find themselves in similar circumstances. The committee members all made themselves available to anyone who wanted to see them.

There was a report on TV3 News on that evening which highlighted Baby Loss Awareness Day and encouraged people to light candles at 7pm in remembrance of all babies who have died.

Should you have any queries regarding this event or Baby Loss Awareness Day please Contact Us.

15th October 2006 was the first Baby Loss Awareness Day to be celebrated in Ireland and was initiated by parents who were inspired by Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in the U.S.A. and Baby Loss Awareness Day in the U.K. We would like to build on this event in future years, and encourage more Remembrance Days and Wave of Light Services around the country in coming years. We hope this will unite parents all over the world in acknowledging their losses and also promote awareness and understanding of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss.

(As always when lighting and burning candles please practice extreme caution and keep away from children, pets and any overhanging or nearby curtains or materials that can catch fire )
